Steel Drum with Polyethylene Inner Container for Double Protection

Our 55 gallon steel composite drum has a UN rating of UN6HA1/X1.6/300.  This drum is UN rated for hazardous liquids in Packing Group I.  It may also be used for Packing Group II & III hazardous liquids or non-hazardous liquids.  Specifications are as follows:

  • Tight head drum with two 2″ buttress plugs with polyethylene gaskets
  • Packing Group I – UN6HA1/X1.6/300
  • Polyethylene inner container in a steel overpack
  • Inner container molded in one piece from high density polyethylene to insure product purity
  • Specification for wall thickness of the inner container is .060 – .080″
  • Strong durable protection for hazardous and non-hazardous products
  • Body constructed with standard hoops formed with side seam resistance

The inner container of our composite drum eliminates product contamination better than a lined steel drum because it eliminates pinholes, cracking and flaking that may happen with some steel drum linings.  The buttress plugs on this drum are threaded directly into the drum helping to prevent leaking and protecting the steel drum from corrosion.  Composite drums are commonly used for foods, flavors, pharmaceuticals, cleaners, chemicals, photochemicals, flammable liquids, corrosives and acids.  Pictures of both the drum and the inner container can be found below.  As always, compatibility of the product being shipped with the container is the responsibility of the shipper.
