30 Gallon 18 Gauge Buff Epoxy Phenolic Lined Steel Drum for Storing & Transporting Powdered Metals

Metal powders are used for various applications in various industries.  Among them are aerospace, automotive, medical devices, magnetic composites, printing, surface coatings and welding.

Many of these powders can be quite heavy and also quite costly and it is important to protect them when storing or transporting them.

We stock a 30 gallon 18 gauge steel open head drum with a bolt ring that may be used for this purpose.  It is Yankee Containers item number WSD5-02-01. The drum has a black painted exterior with a white cover.  The cover is a solid gasketed cover.  The interior of the drum has a one coat epoxy phenolic lining.  It has a UN rating of UN1A2/Y300/S.  Some of our customers tell us they even use a plastic bag in the drum to keep the metal powders from getting into the chimes of the drum.  The chimes are the protruding rings at the top and bottom of the drum as well as in the body.

An explanation of the UN rating for this drum is as follows:

  • UN   United Nations
  • 1 = Drum
  • A = Steel
  • 2 = Open Head
  • Y = Packing Groups II & III
  • 300 = Maximum gross mass the container has been tested to hold
  • S = This container has been tested to hold solids.
