Spice Tins

Why use slipcover tins for packaging spices?  The quality of herbs and spices can be negatively impacted by heat, light, moisture and air.  It is widely known that these elements can reduce quality, flavor and the essential oil content of your spices.  Did you know that spices stay fresher longer when stored in dark containers.  Allstate Can, the manufacturer of our slip cover tins states that “one study, carried out over a six year period, showed that spices kept in clear containers lost 47% of their essential oils, while those kept in dark containers such as tins, lost only 0-5% of their essential oils regardless of whether the spice was powdered or whole”.  The spices tested in the study were anise, cardamom, fennel, cumin, sweet marjoram, mace, cloves, pepper, allspice and cinnamon.  Tins can be easily labeled, do not break like glass and may help with shipping costs as they weigh less than many other packaging options.  Upon request, we would be happy to send a sample for testing with your product.
